Aunt Betty and I went to our second cake decorating class last night. We actually got to decorate a cake this time. Nothing this week has gone according to plan and the cake class was no different. Aunt Betty made and iced the cakes but the icing was way to hard and the cake tore up a lot. We had to add lots of water and mix and mix and mix to be able to get the icing the right consistency. In the end we did manage to get it pretty close to being right. We practiced several techniques and ended by playing with decorating the cake we all brought from home. Mine definitely had a rustic look to say the least. But hey it was my first time.
For next weeks class the theme is clowns (not my favorite thing) made out of icing. I just don't think some huge puffy icing clown is cool, but that is what we'll be doing. Aunt Betty and I will be much more organized. She will be coming over to my house Thursday morning and we'll make the cakes together and the icing. That will leave us a lot more time for fun in class.
I'll also be getting a few supplies for decorating cakes that were my Grandma's. She was a professional decorator and my Aunt Carol still has some of her pans and such. My Aunt had been trying to decide what to do with that stuff for years and now I can put it to good use.
